We conduct training sessions on the lathe quarterly. Currently, the lathe certification process is just that a process. Unless you are an experienced turner, members must go through one of the quarterly Introduction to the Lathe classes. Following successful completion of the class the “new turner” will be assigned to one of several seasoned members who have volunteered to be “Mentors”. The mentor stage can last up to 2 months before the new turner can be certified on the lathes. Seasoned turners who join the club may be given the opportunity for a “fast track” certification. Generally, this process involves a one to two hour session with one of the committee members during which the member demonstrates the basic skills on the lathe needed for safe, independent operation.Resources
